The real question here is whether men consider "ambition" as an attractive quality as women do. Ambition is extremely, extremely , extremely important when they list of the attributes of a desirable man. Why is this? Probably because it represents his future earnings potential and ability to provide. Now, if you ask the average man where "ambition" is on the list of attractive traits, it might not even make on the list since a man doesn't expect that he will have to rely on her for her ability to provide. So, here is where I think the difference lies. It isn't that men aren't attracted to ambitious women or that it is a negative trait, but that there are a lot of factors which are more important on average. This is in contrast to most women where ambition is the number one attractor. I bet it was a woman who asked the question because she simply can't see why men don't hold it to the same importance.
